Chlorine dioxide is a highly effective disinfectant for water systems, including tanks and main pipes, known for its broad-spectrum biocidal activity and ability to penetrate and remove biofilm. It's particularly useful in preventing Legionella and other waterborne pathogens. Unlike chlorine, chlorine dioxide doesn't form harmful byproducts like trihalomethanes (THMs).
Chlorine dioxide disrupts the cellular structure of microorganisms, targeting proteins and enzymes, leading to their inactivation and death. It also degrades biofilm, which is a matrix of microorganisms and their byproducts that can protect them from disinfection.
